A Closer Examination of Thread Jet Cleaning on Makino's DUO-Series WEDMs

The thread jet needle is an integral part of the DUO-series' automatic wire threading (AWT) and wire feed systems, providing a precise stream of water during the threading process. To maintain appropriate water flow and reliable auto-threading, it is important to keep the thread system clean and clear of particle deposits resulting from de-ionized water. In this video, an operator cleans a DUO thread jet needle in approximately two and a half minutes. After removing a couple screws to access the thread jet needle, the operator uses K200, a light acid cleaning solution, to clean the needle housing and the inside and outside of the needle itself. Afterward, the system is rinsed free of any excess K200 solution to ensure it will not make it onto any parts and cause damage to them. This simple preventative maintenance procedure can save countless dollars lost to downtime and poor threading, especially in unattended burn situations.
