New Octomill vs Classic 29I Cutter machining demo | Seco tools

In this video, we compare two of Seco’s 16mm round insert milling solutions: the established R217/220.29I cutter with RP.T1605 inserts, and the new-generation R217/220.43-06 Octomill, designed to accommodate both face milling and moderate high-feed applications using the ROMT1605 insert. Through side-by-side cutting demonstrations, we explore the differences in cutting behavior and performance as well as chip control. The Octomill round insert version introduces a more positive axial geometry, resulting in lighter cutting action—particularly beneficial for weak or less stable setups. Entry and exit cuts are noticeably smoother, and axial forces are reduced, helping to preserve tool life and part integrity. Please note, there is no compatibility between these two ranges. The ROMT1605M0T-8-M14 insert is specifically designed for the .43-06 cutter, while RP.T1605M0.-x-Mxx inserts are used exclusively with the .29I solution.
