Der Fokus des vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) geförderten Verbundprojekts ZykloMed lag auf drei Fertigungsverfahren. Die neuartigen Prozesse Rotationsunrunddrehen, Polygondrehen und High-Speed-Wirbelfräsen basieren alle auf dem gleichen kinematischen Prinzip mehrerer synchronisiert rotierender Achsen. Während dieses Prinzip altbekannt ist, ist die Anwendung auf unrunde und geschwungene Formen hochgradig anspruchsvoll. Gleichzeitig muss die praktische Umsetzung die hohen Qualitätsanforderungen der Medizintechnik erfüllen. The joint project ZykloMed, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), focussed on three manufacturing processes. The novel manufacturing processes of non-circular rotary turning, polygon turning and high speed whirl milling (turn whirl milling) are all based on the same kinematic principle of multiple synchronised rotating axes. While this principle is well known, its application to non-circular and curved shapes is highly demanding. At the same time, the practical implementation must meet the high quality requirements of the medical industry.

Iscar tech talk - iscar heli-3-mill endmill cutters with an extra small diameter

The HELI-3-MILL is a family of cutters which carries triangular inserts with 3 helical cutting edges. These unique inserts are triangular with 3 cutting edges and highly economical for 90 degrees shoulder milling. These inserts have ramping down abilities with high axial rake angles for a maximum depth of cut of 3.5mm. The strong and durable cutters provide high clamping rigidity and suitable for machining steel, cast iron, stainless steel and difficult to machine materials which belong to the ISO P, M, K, and S groups of applications. The cutters have a protective coating for improved wear and corrosion resistance, and a coolant hole directed to each cutting edge which prolongs tool life and assures good surface finish. The new endmill cutters are now available in diameters of 6 and 8 mm which makes HELI-3-MILL suitable for manufacturing miniature parts, and small-size medical components. The new tools provide an ideal solution for low power machining centers and turn-milling machines. Milling square shoulders, planes, slots and cavities by ramping down or helical interpolation is now easier with the HELI-3-MILL tool design which eliminates mismatches in multi-pass milling. Vibration Dampened Long-Reach Machining on Cast Iron | Seco Tools

This is a video in collaboration with one of our Italian customers Meccanica Broter. The customer wanted to achieve a roughness of 3.2 mm and tolerances of 2 tenths. Thanks to the use of an anti-vibration bar (https://bit.ly/45JaFUx) , which reaches a length of 10 times the diameter, we were able to achieve the customer's goal in a reliable and repeatable manner. Moreover, We were able to optimize the pass with a 4mm depth of cut (reducing the feed rate by 0.06) while staying within tolerance, thanks to the excellent machinability of the material.
