The brilliance of this design is not immediately noticeable: One movement of the chucking cylinder and the clamping unit moves forward, the clamping head clamps and the work piece is pulled back onto the end-stop. Perfect! The chuck provides very high clamping forces and therefore the possibility of machining at very high cutting speeds »between centers«. Even though its size is much smaller than usual, it still has the famous SPANNTOP »bite«. A simple, economical standard clamping cylinder is all that is required to accomplish this. TALEMENT is an extremely elastic membrane that is preferably actuated by air, but can also be actuated using liquid media. Wear resistant segments are vulcanized onto the clamping surfaces of the chuck. Because of their elasticity, the membranes follow the contour of the work piece without deforming when it is clamped. Even major deviations in shape, measuring in the millimeter range, can be easily compensated for. The clamping elements are joined together solidly after they are put in place. Whether TALEMENT chucks are used for outside, or TALEMENT mandrels for inside clamping: TALEMENT is ideal for long, out-of-round and thin walled work pieces like cylindrical sleeves and tubes.
