Cogsdill Universal Diamond Burnishing Tool (UDBT) on MAZAK Lathe

Universally speaking... The latest addition to the Cogsdill Burnishing portfolio is the Universal Diamond Burnishing Tool (UDBT). Using Cogsdill’s proven diamond insert geometry, our premium range of burnishing tools can achieve low RA surface finishes, by cold flowing the peaks into the valleys in one pass – achieving results not attainable from any other metal removal process. UDBT are designed to be adjustable through 180 degrees, which makes them the ideal choice tool for lower volume batch components where a designated orientated tool is not required. The quick and simple castellated adjustment makes this the most versatile diamond burnishing tool on the market! Simple and Efficient Cogsdill Universal Diamond Burnishing Tools (UDBT) are designed to produce mirror-like finishes on any surface; from carbon steels to tool steels, cast iron to alloys, and most ferrous and non-ferrous metals. UDBT offers the flexibility for burnishing large bores, outside diameters, tapers and faces to achieve superior surface finishes not achieved by turning alone. Developed as a solution for burnishing low volume batch components, this single tool streamlines operations significantly as it can be utilized in either left or right-handed machine configurations – eliminating the need for multiple tools in specific environments. Further more, set up and operation is relatively simple, no special operator skills are required.

Cogsdill Diamond Burnish face Mill Tool (DBFM)

A new addition to the Cogsdill Burnishing lineup is the Diamond Burnish Face Mill Tool (DBFM) for burnishing flat faces to achieve superior surface finishes. Using Cogsdill proven diamond insert geometry, our premium range of burnishing tools can achieve low RA surface finishes, by cold flowing the peaks into the valleys in one pass – achieving results not attainable from any other metal removal process. Simple and efficient, Cogsdill DBFM tools are designed to produce mirror-like finishes on any surface; from carbon steels to tool steels, cast iron to alloys, and most ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Set up and operation is relatively simple, no special operator skills are required. All tools are supplied with through coolant capability but while the tool must be used with coolant, no special coolant is required. Straight oils, soluble oils, and synthetic coolants can be used to provide the necessary lubrication. DBFM Tool Operation 1 The Cogsdill Diamond Burnish Face Mill tool is mounted to a standard milling arbor which fits into the spindle of any machining centre. 2 The diamond burnishing inserts are brought into contact with the workpiece perpendicular to the surface being finished. 3 The tool is then fed into the workpiece an additional .002 or .003 inch (.05 or .08mm) to allow the diamond inserts to disengage from the stops in the holders. 4 The internal springs, with their adjustable preloads, force the multiple diamonds against the workpiece. 5 The continually rotating tool is then fed along the surface of the workpiece which produces a mirror-like finish. Diamond Burnish Face Mill Tools are versatile Designed to fit in your CNC machining center, with a common interface to suit industry-standard milling arbors. The tools can be used on both large and small areas, and are ideal for short production runs. The Diamond Burnish Face Mill Tool can produce quality finishes on interrupted surfaces, such as a face of a flange having a series of bolt holes or a keyway. The tools are supplied pre-loaded, but the spring pressure can be adjusted to ensure consistent pressure on the face of the component, assuring repeatability from part to part. Spare diamond inserts are easily replaced and available from stock. The premium quality and replaceable diamond burnishing insert is polished and contoured to provide superior finishes and long tool life. https://cogsdill.com/products/burnishing-tools/diamond-burnish-face-mill-tools/

Cogsdill Bottle Boring tools for machining Landing Gear

The design and construction of lighter, more fuel-efficient aircraft are major aerospace industry trends. Cogsdill is developing solutions, utilizing state-of-the-art materials and tool designs for machining operations ranging from simple to complex. Covering both commercial and military applications, Cogsdill’s commitment to the aerospace industry is unparalleled in providing extreme precision that provides increased reliability, propulsion and stability. Cogsdill offers many standard and special tooling solutions for machining operations ranging from simple to complex on all aspects of aeronautical engineering. Complementing our extensive inventory of existing tooling, we are able to custom develop tools to your specific requirements due to our in-house design and manufacturing. Whether you are machining new or reclaiming existing aircraft components, Cogsdill have a range of tools developed specifically for the aerospace industry. Shefcut special precision reamers, achieve size, accuracy, and location on critical bores in landing gear components. Various features inside landing gear and jet engines, including bottle bores are machined with ease using the Cogsdill MBT (Modular Boring Tool) system. Bottle boring, also known as internal profiling or chamber boring is a special cutting operation where the boring tool expands and contracts within an existing bore to produce a contour inside the workpiece. This enables the manufacturer to machine complex internal shapes, sophisticated bore transitions and undercuts, that reduces the overall weight of critical components without compromising surface integrity. These characteristics are generally too deep or too complicated for single point boring bars. The internal hole profile is larger within the part than at the entry or exit diameters, therefore CNC controls are necessary for coordinating multiple axes simultaneously to create the desired profiles. MBT pilot right The Cogsdill MBT tool is supported with a proven pilot system, either utilizing a rotating O’ring pilot assembly, designed to keep coolant and chips away from the tool body or via coated carbide wear pads, both styles ensuring a vibration free operation, with superior surface finishes. These pads/pilots are designed to suffer the least amount of wear whilst not damaging the base material of the component.
