Simmons WTC-250 Wheel Turning Center: Integrated Measurement

The new Simmons WTC-250 Wheel Turning Center features integrated measurement for a more precise machining process and superior workpiece qualification. Pre-machining measurement captures the following user-defined wheel dimensions: wheel bore diameter, bottom and top of hub location, and hub outside diameter. All of these measurements can be made at multiple rotational positions and heights, allowing for measurements such as bore taper on multiple planes. Consistent bore and taper measurements mean improved compliance with AAR standards. Post-machining measurement qualifies the workpiece and provides access to valuable wheel data. This data is stored and can be sent to other machines or destinations within the facility. If connected to a wheel press, these measurements can decrease the facility's misfit ratio, producing safer wheel sets and less scrapped wheels and axles. Increased access to pre- and post-machining measurement data also allows the facility to observe trends and better manage wheel set production goals and preventive maintenance programs.
