ABB’s IRB 4600 helps Architects at ETH Zurich to build Eggshell Pavilion

Turning digital designs into reality with 3D printing has been made easier for architects at ETH University with ABB’s GoFa cobot and IRB 4600. The eggshell pavilion has been designed by students at Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich in collaboration with chairs of Gramazio Kohler Research and Physical Chemistry of Building Materials. From prototype to final fabrication process, the use of ABB robots ensures less building material than any conventional construction process, saving upto 40% concrete, enabling architects to build more efficient structures. The use of collaborative robot GoFa in the prototyping phase, simplifies learning and helps students to anticipate challenges in large scale manufacturing. By learning the robotic procedures in the classroom, students can then scale up for execution in the lab. The 3-D constructed pavilion is on display at the Vitra museum in Germany. #digitalfabrication #construction #collaborativerobots #GoFacobot #industrialrobots #3Dprinting #Abbrobotics
