Automated Machining of Aluminum Aerospace Assemblies

Makino's high-speed horizontal machining centers offer the speed, flexibility and precision necessary to make short work of high part volumes, while maintaining tight dimensional accuracies in a variety of part sizes. This video shot at Exacta Aerospace of Wichita, KS demonstrates the processing speed, automation and production capabilities of integrating horizontal machining centers into highly flexible Makino Machining Complexes (MMC2). Exacta's investments in a MAG3EX and two automated aluminum machining cells -- one cell featuring two D500s and four a51s and another with two A77Es and a single a71 -- have enabled the company to quickly produce complete ship sets of aerospace parts. The added flexibility of the MMC2 pallet handling system allows operators to access part programs and adjust scheduling on the fly for the highest level of productivity. Since investing in its family of Makino horizontals, Exacta's revenue has grown more than 14 times.
