Der Fokus des vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) geförderten Verbundprojekts ZykloMed lag auf drei Fertigungsverfahren. Die neuartigen Prozesse Rotationsunrunddrehen, Polygondrehen und High-Speed-Wirbelfräsen basieren alle auf dem gleichen kinematischen Prinzip mehrerer synchronisiert rotierender Achsen. Während dieses Prinzip altbekannt ist, ist die Anwendung auf unrunde und geschwungene Formen hochgradig anspruchsvoll. Gleichzeitig muss die praktische Umsetzung die hohen Qualitätsanforderungen der Medizintechnik erfüllen. The joint project ZykloMed, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), focussed on three manufacturing processes. The novel manufacturing processes of non-circular rotary turning, polygon turning and high speed whirl milling (turn whirl milling) are all based on the same kinematic principle of multiple synchronised rotating axes. While this principle is well known, its application to non-circular and curved shapes is highly demanding. At the same time, the practical implementation must meet the high quality requirements of the medical industry.
