Oerlikon Balzers Surface Solutions Symposium – More than just coatings

With the motto «More than just a coating» Marc Desrayaud, Head of Balzers Industrial Solutions, welcomed special guests and customers to the first Oerlikon Balzers Surface Solutions Symposium. In his presentation, he introduced Oerlikon as a global, high-tech engineering group with unique competencies in advanced materials, surface solutions and materials processing and the respective competence brands. The Surface Solutions segment comprises of Oerlikon Metco, Oerlikon AM, and Oerlikon Balzers with its Business Units Balzers Industrial Solutions and Automotive Solutions. The segment offers solutions for surface mechanisms and functions. Oerlikon Balzers offer surface solutions for cutting and forming tools as well as precision and automotive components. The foundation of the Oerlikon Balzers’ success are strategic partnerships with customers and a strong R&D and engineering department. Marc presented some of the latest tool coatings and coating equipment developments. The coating solutions for precision components were then presented by Ian Howe, Head of Precision Components. Oerlikon Balzers offers customised solutions across multiple industries such as General Engineering, Aerospace, Medical, High End Deco, Motorsports, Oil & Gas, Semiconductors and Power Generation. Ian Howe starts his presentation talking about the many possibilities for this industries and markets, where Oerlikon Balzers coatings solutions reduce wear and increase performance. He points out that Oerlikon Balzers develops new innovative solutions in partnership with customers and can also industrialise customer specific solutions.
